Overview: What does a Veterinarian do?
Must be a licensed Doctor of Veterinary Veterinarians are concerned with the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of animals with diseases and disorders. Promote animal health. Test dairy herds for tuberculosis and brucellosis, and inoculate animals against diseases. Perform autopsies to determine causes of death. May specialize in controlling animal diseases communicable to people, other specializations may be Animal Anatomist, Veterinary Inspector, Veterinary Physiologist, and Public Health Veterinarian. Employment opportunities are expected to be very good, but competition for admission to veterinary school is keen.
