Overview: What does an Airline Pilot do?

Pilot or navigate airplane to transport passengers for commercial airlines. When in command of aircraft and crew, the pilot is designated as Airplane Captain; when second in command to the pilot, designation is Airplane First-officer or Copilot. Pilots usually start with smaller commuter and regional airlines to acquire the experience needed to qualify for higher paying jobs with national airlines.
