Overview: What does a Surveyor do?
Land surveyors establish official land, air space, and water boundaries. They write descriptions of land for deeds, leases, and other legal documents. Surveyors provide data relevant to the shape, contour, location, elevation, or dimension of land or land features. They measure distances, directions, and angles between points and elevations of points, lines, and contours on, above, and below the earth’s surface. Almost 2 out of 3 jobs were in architectural, engineering, and related services. Opportunities will be best for surveyors who have at least a bachelor’s degree and strong technical skills. All states require licensing, which requires individuals to pass a written examination.
