Overview: What does a Mathematician do?
Conduct research in fundamental mathematics and in the application of mathematical techniques to science, management, and other fields and solve or direct solutions to problems in various fields by mathematical models. The work of mathematicians falls into two broad classes — theoretical (pure) mathematics and applied mathematics. Employment is expected to contract, reflecting the decline in the number of jobs with the title mathematician; competition will be keen for the limited number of jobs.
