Overview: What does a Registered Nurse do?
Registered nurses (RNs) work to promote health, prevent disease, and help patients cope with illness. They assess and record symptoms, reactions, and progress in patients; assist physicians during surgeries, treatments, and examinations; administer medications; and assist in convalescence. Nurses may work nights, weekends, and holidays. More new jobs are expected to be created for registered nurses than for any other occupation. Students must graduate from an approved nursing program and pass a national licensing examination in order to obtain a nursing license.
